Tassili Luxury Desert Camp
Tent lit at night seen from outside, with the armchair on the terrace

A Sahara desert honeymoon in the Merzouga dunes

Two nights among the dunes, away from the other camps. The double tent is €200 a night for the two of you, with dinner, breakfast, a camel ride and the 4x4 transfer.

Is Morocco good for a honeymoon?

Yes, especially if you like variety: in one or two weeks you can fit a medina in Marrakech or Fes, the Atlas Mountains and a night in the Sahara. The desert is usually the part of the trip couples talk about afterwards, because it is the one that feels nothing like home.

Most couples reach us after a few days in the cities, and what they want here is the opposite: silence, a sky full of stars and nothing to organise.

We are in Erg Znaigui, in the Taouz area, away from the strip where most Merzouga camps stand side by side. There are ten tents and nothing but dunes around them: at night you will not hear anyone else’s music.

What is included, and what we can arrange for you

The first row is always included in the price of the tent. The rest we prepare if you tell us in advance, and we give you a fixed price before you arrive.

The double tent

A king-size bed, good bed linen and a seating area. The bathroom is inside the tent, with a toilet and a hot shower, so nobody crosses the camp in the middle of the night.

Air conditioning and heating from 20:00 to 08:00, when you are actually inside, and a porch with the sand one step away. If you prefer separate beds, the same tent is set up as a twin at the same price. Photos are on the double tent page.

A honeymoon day in the Sahara

  • Afternoon: arrival by 4x4We pick you up and drive the last stretch over the sand in a 4x4, luggage included. There is time to settle in before the sun goes down.
  • Sunset on a camelOut into the dunes to watch the sun set. This is where the best photographs of the trip come from.
  • DinnerIn the dining tent or, if you have asked for it, at a table for two among the dunes, lit by lanterns.
  • By the fireLive Berber music played by the camp team. When the fire dies down, all you hear is the wind.
  • The starsWith no villages or camps nearby, the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye from your porch.
  • SunriseClimb a dune before breakfast to watch the sun come up. Or stay in bed: that works too.

What a honeymoon couple wrote

francisco m spent their honeymoon with us in January. Their TripAdvisor review, written in Spanish, mentions «a very comfortable and warm bed» that kept them warm in winter, a camp «quite far away from the rest of the camps», and one more thing: «they prepared a surprise for our honeymoon. It was a magical experience.»

This review and others, in full, are on our reviews page.

How many nights, and how it fits your Morocco honeymoon itinerary

We recommend two nights. With one, you arrive in the afternoon and leave the next morning; with two, you get a whole day without a car, which on a honeymoon is worth a lot. More in how many days to spend in the desert.

A common 8 to 10-day route: fly into Marrakech, cross the Atlas to Ouarzazate and the Dades Valley, spend two nights with us and leave through Fes, so you never drive the same road twice. The route is in getting here from Marrakech and from Fes.

Short on days? There are domestic flights to Errachidia, about two hours from the dunes: getting here from Errachidia. We do not sell tours, but we will help you fit the desert nights into the trip you already have.

How much a desert honeymoon costs

The double tent is €200 a night for the two of you, not per person, with dinner, breakfast, a sunset camel ride, Berber music, sandboarding and the 4x4 transfer. Two nights cost €400, with no supplement for extra nights.

Honeymoon packages are usually priced per person and bundle riads, drivers and guides. If you are building the trip yourselves, you only pay for what you use here. A private dinner in the dunes, decoration and cake are extra and depend on what you want; the full picture is in how much it costs to sleep in the desert.

Best time for a Sahara honeymoon

March to May and October to November: days between 20 and 30 °C and pleasant nights. Winter days are mild and the nights are properly cold, with the clearest skies of the year, and the tent is heated.

We close in July because of the heat, and we would not recommend August for a honeymoon. Month by month in the best time to visit the desert.

Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga?

Both are seas of sand dunes. Erg Chebbi, where we are, has dunes of up to 150 metres, tarmac all the way to the edge of the dunes and an airport about two hours away. Erg Chigaga, beyond M’Hamid, is wilder and further: the last 56 kilometres or so are an off-road track.

If your honeymoon also includes Marrakech and Fes, Erg Chebbi fits the route better. For a fuller comparison, read Merzouga or Zagora.

  • Finding the ideal campsite in Merzouga is a daunting task: the offer is immense and the comments contradictory. […] The first thing that sets it apart is its location: away from the crowded Erg Chebbi area, away from the large and impersonal camps. Everything here is more intimate, more authentic. […] The tents are comfortable, clean and well equipped. […] The value for money is the best we have seen, and we compare a lot.

  • We have just returned from spending 5 days in the Merzouga desert and are still trying to assimilate how amazing the experience has been. […] The tent was spotless, all super clean and cared for, something that is greatly appreciated in such an environment. And the food… just spectacular. Full breakfasts and amazing dinners. […] If anyone is doubting, really: this is the place.

  • The camp is exceptional: the delicious food, the cute tent and it had many amenities that made the stay enjoyable, from the bathroom to a very comfortable and warm bed that made us not go cold despite having gone in winter. It is noteworthy that the camp is quite far away from the rest of the camps, which makes one really enjoy the desert experience, like absolute silence. On top of all that, they prepared a surprise for our honeymoon. It was a magical experience.

Honeymoon questions

Is the private dinner really private?

If you ask for it, yes: the table is set for the two of you among the dunes, away from the dining tent. Otherwise you dine in the dining tent with the other guests, from ten tents at most.

Will there be other people at the camp?

At most, the guests in the other nine tents. If you want the camp to yourselves, it can be booked in full: ask us for a price for your dates.

How far in advance should we tell you?

As early as possible, especially for decoration or a cake: everything comes from Merzouga or Rissani. A week is plenty; the same day is not.

How many nights do you recommend?

Two. One night goes by in a blur; with two you get a whole day in the desert without getting in a car.

Can we do a proposal?

Yes. A proposal at sunset on top of a dune is one of the things we are asked for most. Tell us the plan and we will make sure everything happens at the right moment.

Is it cold at night?

From November to February, yes, close to freezing at times. The tent has heating from 20:00 to 08:00, and in spring and autumn the nights are mild.

Can we come in July or August?

We close in July because of the heat. August is possible, but the day is lived at sunrise and sunset. For a honeymoon we recommend spring or autumn.

How do we book?

On WhatsApp or with the booking form. Give us your dates and tell us it is your honeymoon, and we will confirm availability and a fixed price for anything you want us to prepare.
